Themed “Sustainability Endures,” the conference will showcase panels, featured speakers, and presentations made by researchers, community advocates, students, and stakeholders from all over the world.

“We are honored to have President Whipps share his vision and experiences with our conference attendees,” said Anita Borja Enriquez, UOG president and co-chair of the conference.

“His keynote address promises to be a powerful and inspiring start to a productive and impactful conference and a great motivator for more regional partnerships," she added.

Whipps, who will deliver his address on April 11, is a prominent voice on the international stage, advocating for climate action and the unique challenges faced by island nations. His leadership and support for global and regional initiatives make him a motivating force in many sustainability discussions.

“President Whipps is a champion for island sustainability and a global leader in the fight against climate change,” said Austin Shelton, director of the UOG Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant.

“We are excited to learn more about his recent launch of the Palau Green Growth Initiative and signing of the renewed Compact of Free Association Agreement. His commitment to the future of his island nation and our planet aligns perfectly with our theme of ‘Sustainability Endures’ for this year’s conference,” he added.

Palacios will keynote the conference on April 12.

He has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at environmental preservation, economic development and community resilience such as the CNMI Green Growth Initiative, which he co-chairs alongside Galvin Deleon Guerrero, president of the Northern Marianas College through a partnership with NOAA and the Guam and Hawaii Sea Grant programs.

"As we continue to move forward in Guam with dedication to a green and sustainable future, the work of Governor Palacios and the entire CNMI Green Growth Initiative is a great partnership in our collective efforts for a stronger and more prosperous island region,” Shelton said
