$9.8 million more to Hawaiian Rock to fix Andersen runways

The U.S. Department of the Navy has awarded Hawaiian Rock Products Corp an additional $9,828,942 to repair the Northwest Field North Runway Landing Zone at Andersen Air Force Base. Repairs are necessary to provide a reliable surface necessary to support large military aircraft, such as the C-17.

Funding for this project was supported by Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo and authorized through the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018. This announcement adds to a previous award of $6,224,768 to bring the project total to $16,053,710. Repairs to the north runway are expected to be completed in July 2019.

“This project will strengthen the north runway at Andersen Air Force Base and allow the Air Force to continue positioning military assets on Guam that keep our island safe and support operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Hawaiian Rock is one of Guam’s largest construction companies. I am pleased the Air Force is utilizing local expertise and helping to support our local economy,” Bordallo said.
