The Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities (CAHA), in collaboration with the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) held the “Kids Helping Kids” Workshop on Oct. 21  at the CAHA Gallery in Hagåtña.  The workshop was conducted by Dr. Lori Phillips, Director of the Pacific Center for Arts and Humanities in Education (PCAHE), PREL.

Approximately 30 children and young teens, ages 11 to 18 years of age, attended the one day workshop.  Participants experienced lessons in beginning drawing; learned the basics of watercolor painting and how to write a visual journal of their work, which will be produced into an early reader book that will be translated into Chamorro and other Micronesian languages.

The institute included discussions, lectures and hands-on art education lessons based on the five focus areas.

These events were the culmination of CAHA’s 2017 Arts & Humanities Month Celebration. This workshop was made possible through the generous support of Tan Holdings, Guam AutoSpot and Sixt Rent-a-Car.

As Guam’s State Arts Agency, CAHA encourages, fosters, advances and promotes a lifelong appreciation of the arts and humanities as a crucial foundation to the welfare and prosperity of our island community.
