Guam Republicans back Israel, condemn Hamas

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

By Pacific Island Times News Staff

The Republican Party of Guam today adopted a resolution expressing support for Israel and its affected Jewish communities while condemning “the evil acts” of Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist militant group.

“No man, woman or child should ever have to suffer and or endure barbarity,” the resolution reads. “The Republican Party of Guam believes in protecting human rights, promoting peace and advocating on behalf of the vulnerable and defenseless.”

A series of coordinated attacks by Hamas, from the Gaza Strip onto bordering areas in Israel, began on Oct. 7, killing 1,400 people. The militant group launched a rocket barrage of at least 3,000 rockets and later kidnapped more than 200 Israelis, prompting Israel to counter the attack by invading Gaza.

The death toll continues to rise as the Israel-Hamas conflict escalates.

“Hamas has sworn to destroy every man and woman of Israel, carrying out continued acts of terrorism daily since the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks,” the resolution reads. “The Republican Party Platform states our unequivocal support for Israel as a beacon of democracy, shared values and freedom.”

The Republican Party of Guam expressed support for the United States’ long-standing policy “that a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will only come through direct, bilateral negotiations between the two parties.”
