The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Guam International Airport Authority $10.4 million for the reconstruction of passenger loading bridges.
The fund will also cover the assessment and design to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities and for a fully integrated fire alarm and suppression system, according to the airport authority.
“We are continuously seeking funds to improve the passenger experience and invest in modern infrastructure to serve our passengers, with safety, security and convenience for terminal users as the highest priority,” said John M. Quinata, GIAA executive manager. “These grants address essential aspects for usability of terminal facilities for all passengers, employees and visitors at the Guam international airport.”
Replacement and reconstruction of passenger loading bridges, the majority of which were put into use since 1996, and some that were damaged by Typhoon Mawar, are a high priority for the aitport.

Airport officials said the design study on accessibility for individuals with disabilities is aimed at improving accessible routing as well as places within the terminal and identifying the best use of the facility. The design will yake into account future construction to ensure the terminal accommodates all types of customers, and equal convenience for those with disabilities, officials said.
