Fish Eye Marine Park invests in renovations
Fish Eye Marine Park is preparing for a significant milestone: the replacement of the eight viewing windows of the Underwater Observatory, marking the first refurbishment of its kind since the park’s inception.
The window replacement will improve the visibility for guests and provide better viewing of the abundant sea life surrounding the observatory.
The replacement project is scheduled to begin on Sept. 1 with completion expected by Sept. 14, in time for the Fish Eye Marine Park’s 30th anniversary celebration.
Since opening its doors in 1996, Fish Eye Marine Park has become a
beloved landmark for both Guam residents and international visitors. Known for its one-of-a-kind Underwater Observatory, the park has offered countless guests the rare opportunity to explore Guam’s vibrant marine life without ever getting wet.
“The Observatory has always been the heart of Fish Eye,” said Akihiro Tani, Fish Eye's general manager. “As we approach our 30th year, we want to ensure the experience remains just as magical as it was for our very first guests. This project is our way of honoring the past while investing in the future.”
Originally scheduled for early 2020, the refurbishment was delayed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
“Replacing underwater glass at this scale takes precision, planning, and care,” shared Frank Benavente, project Manager of Fish Eye Marine Park. “Each panel is custom fit and must be sealed to withstand underwater pressure all while ensuring minimal disruption to the marine ecosystem surrounding the
observatory.”
Tani added, “The eight new windows will provide pristine views of Piti Bay’s thriving coral reef and marine life. We invite everyone to return when we reopen to experience our enhanced Underwater Observatory.”
Fish Eye offers a full range of activities, such as the Island Cultural Dinner Show, snorkeling tours, dolphin and sunset cruises, and the Island Heritage & Coconut Experience.
Bank of Guam's Elevate HER Pitch Program returns for its second year

Bank of Guam's ElevateHER Pitch Program, marking its second year, once again called on women entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas and growth plans for a chance to win funding, exposure, and mentorship.
Launched in partnership with the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce and KUAM Communications, ElevateHer is more than just a pitch competition; it is an empowerment platform designed to champion women-led businesses at any stage of their business journey.
The top finalists will receive one-on-one training sessions and targeted workshops throughout the competition, culminating in a pitch presentation live on stage at Fanachu Famalåo’an 2025: In Bloom, the GWCC’s signature women’s leadership summit scheduled for Sept. 26 at Hyatt Regency Guam.
The prize package for the winner includes $5,000 in seed money from Bank of Guam, $5,000 worth of advertising credit for TV, radio, or digital from KUAM Communications, and a one-year membership in the GWCC.
Additionally, a People’s Choice Award will be selected live by the audience at Fanachu Famalåo’an along with a prize of $2,000 from Bank of Guam.
"We learned early on that this was more than just a pitch competition; it’s a space for inspiration and opportunity to uplift women and their dreams," said
Maria Eugenia H. Leon Guerrero, executive vice president and CEO of the Bank of Guam.
"Launching this program has been one of the most rewarding initiatives we’ve done, she added.
Last year’s grand prize winner, Karmen George, founder of Nemin Boutique, also won the People’s Choice Award. Her fashion brand reimagines traditional Chuukese muumuus into bold, modern statement pieces. Her designs celebrate Micronesian heritage while empowering women to express confidence and individuality.
She has elevated her brand, increased her followers, and expanded her clientele and customers. She has since become a certified Guam Unique and Merchandise Art vendor and was featured in a commercial for Bank of Guam’s Proud to Be campaign.
"Her story reminds us that when women are given the tools and visibility they need, it can spark a movement in creativity and representation," Leon Guerrero said.
Marie Calvo Monge, CEO of KUAM, said this year, the finalists will highlight their innovative ideas, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
"We’re excited to see what this year’s applicants bring, and we’re ready to help their ideas bloom into reality," said Dena Rendon-Pangelinan, president of GWCC.
Applications closed on Aug. 8 and the judging panel will review all applications and determine the top three finalists.
