Joint Region Marianas has new commander

Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield relieved Rear Adm. “Bette” Bolivar during a change of command ceremony Jan. 27.

Chatfield will serve as Commander, Joint Region Marianas; Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Marianas; U.S. Pacific Command, Senior Military Official Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau and Commander, Task Force West.

She reports to Guam after serving as United States Deputy Military Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium.

Chatfield expressed that it is the people of Guam and the warmth of their hospitality that inspired her to return to the island.

“It was my previous experience on Guam, the operational importance of the infrastructure and units assigned here, and the relevant work to be done that caused me to seek this assignment,” said Chatfield. “It feels good to come home to Guam. David and I are so excited to be here, and he joins me in saying thank you.”
