Guam in COR2

Guam is now in Condition of Readiness (COR) 2. Governor Eddie Baza Calvo and Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, Commander, Joint Region Marianas have placed the island and military installations, respectively, in COR 2 as of 7 p.m.

COR 2 means Guamanians can expect to see typhoon-strength winds within 24 hours. Typhoon Mangkhut has sustained winds of 75 mph and has room for further intensification prior to landfall within 24 hours. On its current track, the eye of Typhoon Mangkhut may be directly over Rota or closer to Guam as a Category 2 to low-end Category 4.

  • Category 2 Typhoon is referred to as a “Moderate Typhoon” with maximum sustained winds of 96-110 and peak gusts of 121-139 mph.

  • Category 4 Typhoon is referred to as a “Very Strong Typhoon” with maximum sustained winds of 130-156 mph and peak gusts of 165-198 mph.

Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to make its closest point of approach to Guam around Monday evening.

The Governor has activated the Emergency Operations Center to ensure Government of Guam and the military are prepared to keep residents safe.

If you haven’t already, please make sure to:
1.    Put up your shutters.
2.    Pick up objects that heavy winds can move around your yard and store them.
3.    Make sure you have your emergency storm kit in a place that’s easy to get to.
4.    Keep a battery-operated radio and batteries on hand. This is the only way you’ll be able to get information on the storm if the power goes off.

 Help family and friends
When you’re done securing your homes and you know someone elderly, living with a disability, or who will otherwise need help, please see how you can help them. If you know a neighbor who has no way of getting information about the storm, please let your neighbor know what the updates are.

COR1 ANTICIPATED
The Governor and the Admiral expect to declare COR1 early tomorrow morning if the storm continues on its path. At that time, residents should stay indoors.
