Former Governor Gutierrez snares former Police Chief Fred Bordallo as

Former Gov. Carl Gutierrez is digging up the old “Gutierrez-Bordallo” banner that brought him to Adelup in 1994 when he won the gubernatorial race with now-Guam delegate to Congress Madeleine Bordallo.
This time, Gutierrez is running with a different Bordallo.
After a lengthy courtship, Gutierrez has completed his gubernatorial ticket — for his fourth attempt to return to Adelup — with former police chief Fred Bordallo on his team.
Bordallo, who retired from the Guam Police Department in 2015, is hitting the campaign trail again after his unsuccessful run for senator in 2016.
Bordallo said his initial plan was to run for the Legislature again but discussions began in November for him to join the former two-term governor.
“I’ve been thinking about it since November and the beginning of this year,” Bordallo told the Pacific Island Times. “Today was the culmination of those talks.”
At the Gutierrez camp’s meeting at McDondald’s Tamuning yesterday, Fred agreed to instead take on the role.
There was no formal announcement of the impromptu decision. Pictures of the event appeared on FaceBook shortly after 10 a.m., with a caption reading: “It’s official!” followed by multiple hashtags indicating a Gutierrez-Bordallo ticket.
This is Gutierrez’s fourth run since his two-terms in Adelup expired in 2002.
He ran with Speaker Benjamin Cruz in 2006, with Sen. Frank Aguon Jr in 2010 and with attorney Frank Gumataotao in 2014.
The Gutierrez-Bordallo ticket will compete with three other teams in the Democratic primary in August. Bank of Guam president Lou Leon Guerrero is running with Josh Tenorio; Sen. Frank Aguon is running with former US Attorney Alicia Limtiaco; Sen. Dennis Rodriguez has yet to announce his running mate. A campaign insider said he is running with retired military official, Dave Cruz.
On the Republican side, Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio and former Sen. Tony Ada will officially announce their campaign on Thursday, which coincides with the grand opening of their campaign headquarters in the old Personal Finance Center in Tamuning. They are expected to run unopposed in the primary.
