Gubernatorial hopeful Therese Terlaje and her running mate Sabina Flores Perez filed their election papers with the Guam Election Commission today, officially launching their bid to be the Democratic Party's standard bearer in this year's election.
Terlaje and Perez, both members of the 38th Guam Legislature, are campaigning for "an honest, transparent and efficient administration that demands better value for every tax dollar."
The Terlaje-Perez ticket is in a three-way race, vying against Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio with running mate Sen. Tina Muna Barnes and Sen. Joe San Agustin with team mate former Sen. Dwayne San Nicolas in the Democratic primary on Aug. 1.
“We are answering an urgent call from people and businesses on Guam for relief from rising costs in food, in rent, in housing, in transportation, a lack of access to full health care, and a lack of safety because of a continued meth crisis that has gone on for far too long,” Terlaje said after filing the papers with the Guam Election Commission.
“We love Guam and our vision is straightforward: We want every person and every business to thrive here on island," she added.
The team's platform will be unveiled in the coming days, Terlaje said.
Perez said the team is "running with a clear commitment to bring real change that can be felt by everyday people."
"The savings will be redirected to what matters most to us all. This means easing the cost of living for working families, safer communities, better education, reliable infrastructure, access to quality healthcare, and economic growth that benefits everyone. We will work for all of Guam, no exceptions and no excuses," she added.
“We're very excited to share the details of our platform in the upcoming days, but today we really wanted to say thank you to our entire community who has pulled together to help each other, to help those who have suffered great losses because of typhoon Sinlaku here on Guam, and of course our brothers and sisters in the Northern Marianas who have suffered great, great losses We will continue to work together, all of us, to help each of you," Terlaje said.
“And we want to thank our grassroots supporters who have helped and encouraged us every step of the way, especially in collecting signatures in a short amount of time. Thank you for fighting for Guam and believing that honest change is still possible,” Perez said.
