The Joint Region Marianas today lifted the mask mandate at Guam's military installations effective immediately.
"It is through your dedication and understanding that we have achieved this very important milestone," Rear Adm. Ben Nicholson, commander of JRM, said in a video message addressing the military community.
"The fight isn't over. Covid-19 continues to affect the island community, the nation and the world, but we are better equipped in this battle," he added.
Nicholson urged the military community to remain vigilant and "continue practicing proper hygiene habits that we have cultivated, such as social distancing when possible and practicable."
He also advised those who are not feeling well to wear a mask and call in sick.
"Don't bring something to work," Nicholson said. "These habits are not only for our own health but for those around us."
Late last year, the Department of Defense lifted the mask mandate at all military installations. JRM, however, reinstated the mask policy in January following a new Covid-19 surge triggered by the omicron variant.
