PHR Club Guam presents the Ultimate Island Brunch

PHR Club Guam's signature dining charity event, “The Ultimate Island Brunch,” returns on Oct. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Tasi Banquet Hall, Hotel Nikko Guam.

Recognized as Guam’s largest brunch experience, “The Ultimate Island Brunch” brings together six premier PHR hotels to showcase an array of specialty menus, paired with a selection of fine wines and beers.

The event will feature a live Maguro Kaitai (katana tuna fillet cutting) demonstration and music performances from Shirley & Dante and InstaJam Duet.

This year’s featured hotels include Hotel Nikko Guam (Benkay), The Tsubaki Tower (Casa Oceano), Hyatt Regency Guam (Cafe Kitchen), Hilton Guam Resoort and Spa (Islander Terrace), Pacific Islan Club (Bistro) and RIHGA Royal Laguna Guam Resort (La Cascata).

Tickets are priced at $75 for adults and $35 for children (ages 5-11), with special discounts available exclusively for PHR members. Tickets are now available for purchase online at www.phrclub.net.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Guam Community College Culinary Program, a vital institution shaping Guam’s food, hospitality and tourism industries.

“For our students, the skills they gain at GCC are more than just lessons. They are stepping stones to careers in culinary arts, tourism, and hospitality,” said Chef Paul Kerner, GCC Culinary Arts Program instructor.

Building Tower for Humanity, one canned food at a time

Planning, preparation and coordination are all well underway for the upcoming Tower for Humanity project set to break ground on Sept. 24 at the Agana Shopping Center to support BeHeartfelt.

This grassroots effort to rally the island to help feed children in need has received an outpouring of support for the drive, leading to the third annual Canstruction Guam Food Drive and Competition.

The goal is to collect 25,000 cans of food and build what will be the largest and most complex tower. Canned food donations may be dropped off at designated receiving sites. (See graphic for list)

Participating organizations will form the Canstruction Teams for the Oct. 4-5 competition.

One can can make a difference

Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz is participating in the island-wide CANstruction canned food drive from Sept. 1 to Oct. 1.

Camp Blaz targets “250 cans for 250 years of the Marine Corps” to feed children across Guam.

The donation drive supports Canstruction, a community event hosted by Be Heartfelt, and Tower for Humanity.

The event provides the opportunity to serve as good stewards of Guam by addressing issues that affect one of the island’s most vulnerable populations – its children.

Donations will benefit Be Heartfelt’s “Meal Pack Program” which feeds 350+ children weekly by packing and distributing discrete meals.

The initial goal of 250 cans has already been surpassed – but the effort isn’t stopping there. Donation drop boxes will remain available through Oct. 1.

On Oct. 4, Marines will join the Canstruction “build day” at the Agana Shopping Center to transform the donated cans into a large-scale structure, which can be viewed on Oct. 5.
