JRM, Guam governor meet, discuss partnership


Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield welcomed newly-elected Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio to the JRM headquarters in Asan Jan. 24. During the meeting, Leon Guerrero and Tenorio, along with their senior staff, were briefed on the mission and operations of the command; the military's economic contribution to the island; the Defense Support of Civil Authorities; progress of the Marine Corps relocation; and existing and future partnership opportunities with military on island. "Working with the new administration will be a big part of ensuring our mission to protect Guam and maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific," said Chatfield. "I value our relationship with the government of Guam and we look forward to working with the governor in the years ahead to continue to strengthen our commitment to One Guam." Following the meeting, the governor expressed her gratitude for the hospitality and partnership extended to her and her staff. "As we begin our administration, it is critical that we develop and maintain a strong and mutual partnership with the military on Guam," she said. "There are great challenges ahead of us and I look forward to working with Joint Region Marianas in ensuring a unified voice on issues important to our island and people."
