FSMers to get a pre-Christmas break on gas prices

Palikir, Pohnpei— Effective Friday, Dec. 21, consumers of gasoline, kerosene, and diesel can expect prices to become more affordable, as the Vital FSM Petroleum Corp. has announced the wholesale price of these chemicals will decrease by 10 cents per gallon.FSMers to get a pre-Christmas break on gas prices

Of course, the lower prices will depend on whether gas station operators will want to pass them along in the holiday spirit.

“…It is our hope that gas stations throughout the nation will take this decrease and pass along some of the savings to customers,” FSMPC’s Mathias Lawrence said, according to a press release.

Presuming that gas stations throughout the FSM pass along 100 percent of these savings to the consumer, citizens in Pohnpei would pay $4.40 for a gallon of gasoline instead of $4.50; citizens in Kosrae would pay $4.15 per gallon instead of $4.25; and citizens in Chuuk would pay $4.65 instead of $4.75; FSMPC advises that Kosrae has the most affordable gasoline in the FSM, with Chuuk having the most expensive, while Pohnpei and Yap are roughly in the middle of the two extremes.
