Marching toward the Guam invasion, July 11, 1944

There was lots of activity on Saipan this day as some troops had duty ferreting out Japanese straggler troops hidden in the island's jungles. Others had a chance to catch up on normal activities as this official Navy photo shows. Meanwhile, the hot news for stateside newspapers was the announcement that the Commander-in-Chief, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt would seek re-election. Meanwhile all the signs of the impending invasion of Rota and then Guam were in place.
