A team of specialists at the Guam Regional Medical City successfull\y removed a knife embedded in the forehead of a man injured during an incident this past weekend.
The three-hour operation in GRMC’s operating theater went well. The patient was listed in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The team of physicians was led by GRMC Neurosurgeon Dr. David Weingarten and GRMC Neurointerventional Radiologist Dr. Scott Shay. Assisting in the operation were GRMC ENT physician Dr. Jason Hahn, GRMC Anesthesiologist Dr. Anna Shapiro and Island Eye Center Ophthalmologist Dr. Robert Jack.
The patient was initially brought to GRMC Saturday night but Dr. Weingarten was not available at that time. The patient was then transferred to GMH where a specialist was available. Medical officials at both GMH and GRMC reviewed the case and decided that the best course of action was to treat the patient at GRMC once Dr. Weingarten and a team of specialists could be assembled.
