Guam Memorial Hospital on Friday reconsidered its decision to stop accepting TakeCare Insurance pending payment dispute resolution, which is being worked out with the insurance provider.

"We understand the uncertainty the recent announcement discontinuing the acceptance of TakeCare Insurance has caused many of the subscribers who are members of our community," GMH said.

GMH stopped accepting TakeCare Insurance Nov. 27 due to unpaid claims. It advised patients holding TakeCare insurance that they would be billed as “self-pay” and would need to seek reimbursement directly from their insurer for services provided at GMH.

"Despite regular communications regarding the issue, TakeCare has failed to fulfill its statutory and contractual financial obligations to GMH," the hospital administration said earlier this week

On Friday, hospital officials reversed its policy, noting that Take Care has indicated its good-faith effort and willingness to resolve the payment issues owed to GMH.

"Effective immediately, GMH will continue to honor and treat patients with Take Care insurance. GMH will accept the insurance information from all Take Care subscribers.

TakeCare Insurance recently indicated a willingness to attempt to resolve the payment issues that persist. While GMH cannot “reinstate” TakeCare Insurance due to ongoing issues, GMHA will continue to treat patients with TakeCare insurance.

"At this time, TakeCare subscribers can continue to seek treatment and care from GMH, without worrying about lacking insurance coverage," GMH said.

“Our hospital is committed to providing quality healthcare to the people of Guam,” said Lillian Perez- Posadas, hospital administrator. “However, the ongoing delays and non-payment of valid claims by TakeCare places an undue burden on GMHA’s operations and direct risk to patient safety.”
