Examine your candidates: Are they real leaders or just plain tea bags?

As we approach the election next year, ask yourself the following questions as you consider whom to vote for:

Do those running for office really possess the necessary leadership skills and experience?"

Are popular people who are elected or appointed to office actually leaders, or are they simply well-known people who fit into your familial chart?

What makes a good leader?

Are they people with whom you would entrust the future of your children?

Would a good leader allow themselves to become entangled in or associated with illegal activity?

Do they worry more about what is best for the vast majority of the community (that should be their goal) or spend their time concentrating on doing things that please small groups or political friends?

Often, when searching for individuals with strong leadership skills, we fail to thoroughly examine their backgrounds and previous leadership experience.

Too many times, we only scratch the surface of the personalities of the people we elect.

Many times, voters simply think they will be better than those currently in elected or appointed office.

Or, even worse, we elect them because they seem to be nice people.

Far too often, voters do not realize that people vying for elected or appointed office are like tea bags.

Tea bags may look nice and have a pleasant fragrance, but once placed in hot water, they take on a very different appearance, smell and taste.

People and their individual personalities are very much like tea bags. They may look, act, and speak well, but when placed in hot water (troubling circumstances or tough challenges), their apparent abilities can and will change – sometimes drastically.

Someone who may have initially appeared solid suddenly turns into something similar to social “mush."

They either cannot or will not make individual decisions that are in the best interest of the majority of Guam’s residents.

Or, even worse, will simply follow the crowd or vote with their fellow politicians to save personal face.

What has happened to the individual strength of the Chamorro?

Wake up Guam!

Being elected or appointed does not make anyone a leader!

Let’s make Guam Great Again!

Esta!
