The Guam Memorial Hospital's board of trustees announced the appointment of Dr. Joleen M. Aguon as hospital administrator and interim chief executive officer last week.

Aguon succeeded Lilian Perez-Posadas, who retired on Sept. 30 after being at the helm of GMH for six years.

“Every patient who comes through GMH deserves safe, reliable, compassionate

care. Every nurse, doctor, and employee deserves an environment where they can do their best work,” Aguon said.

“My focus as Interim CEO is to fight for both and lay the roadmap for the permanent CEO, because the strength of our hospital lies in the people we serve and the people who serve here.”

As interim CEO,  Aguon will work closely with GMH’s leadership team, medical

staff, and employees at every level to strengthen operations, support innovation

in patient care, and continue building trust with the community.

"Her leadership approach reflects a commitment to collaboration and respect for the dedicated professionals who make GMH still Guam’s hospital," GMH said in a press release.

GMH said Aguon is "guided by the hospital’s mission to provide compassionate, forward-thinking, quality-driven, and safe healthcare that honors the people and community of Guam."

Aguon has served in critical roles, including Covid-19 medical director and associate administrator of clinical services, associate administrator of medical services, and continues to practice as a pulmonary and critical care specialist.

“Dr. Joleen Aguon has dedicated her career to caring for our people with compassion and excellence, and I have full confidence that she will lead GMH with the same heart and professionalism that have defined her service," Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said.

"I also want to extend my deepest appreciation to Lillian Perez-Posadas

for her many years of leadership and her tireless commitment to our hospital, especially through the most challenging times. Her dedication has paved the

way for continued progress, and her impact will be felt in every life that GMH touches,” she added.

“We welcome Dr. Aguon into this role and look forward to working together with her in the same collaborative spirit that drives all of us at GMHA,” said the GMH Executive Management Council. “The strength of our hospital comes from our dedicated staff, and under Dr. Aguon’s leadership, we remain committed to caring for our patients and serving the people of Guam.”
