Guam Regional Medical City will host its next outreach event, Healing Starts Here: Foot Health and Wound Care for Diabetes, on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Micronesia Mall Center Court.

This event, free and open to the public, will focus on raising awareness about diabetic foot health and wound care, including prevention, treatment and when to seek professional help.

Educational presentations, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., will be led by a team of GRMC experts, including Dr. Melinda Sangalang, podiatrist; Kristine Mae Pasco, nurse practitioner in wound care; and Manny Dela Paz, orthopedic technician.

They provide valuable insights on foot care for people with diabetes, early signs of complications, and wound prevention and healing strategies. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in a live Q&A session following the presentations.

Whether you're looking for guidance, resources, or just want to learn more about foot care and wound prevention, this event is an excellent opportunity to connect with healthcare professionals and the community.

“Foot-related complications are one of the most common and dangerous issues for people living with diabetes," Snagalang said. "Through education and early intervention, our team can help our community reduce the risk of wounds, infections, and amputations. Healing truly starts with awareness and early action.”

Kristine Mae Pasco adds, “Events like this help break down barriers to care by making expert information and preventive health services more accessible. It’s important for our community to know that managing diabetes isn’t just about blood sugar, it’s about the whole body. Our goal is to educate, support, and empower patients to take charge of their health before complications arise.”

The event includes:

  • Free vitals: blood pressure & blood sugar

  • Vendor booths from GRMC’s Wound Care Department, Podiatry Department, Patient Education, and The Medical City

  • Educational resources, games, raffle prizes and giveaways.
