Guam gets set for this year's biggest running event

A festive atmosphere at the Pacific Islands Club as the United Airlines Guam Marathon announced another exciting year for Guam’s most popular running event.

With help from title sponsors United Airlines and Gold sponsors, Pacific Islands Club as well as the Guam’s Visitor Bureau, this years’ race gives runners of all skill sets a chance to test their will and might. Though there is a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon, the Marathon boasts the Hafa Adai Expo.

Runners also can register at the race expo April 12-13. The expo, which spans two days, affords the opportunity for runners to participate in activities, games, and receive their race packet, pick up official event merchandise and check out participating sponsors and vendor booths. We’re very excited, race coordinator Ben Ferguson said, “we will have representatives from 18 countries for this year's event.

This year’s UGM will hit the ground running in the form of the UGM Start Line Party. The block style party will no doubt draw a crowd with its grand prize airline ticket giveaway from United Airlines, all the while local DJ play the soundtrack along with cultural dance performances.

Marathon runners will be participating for the chance to win $25,000 in prizes. Because this event has something for everyone it also has start times to match. The Full marathon will get things going at the early start time of 3 am with participants leaving the start line every hour until the final heat for the 5k departs at 6 am.

Members of the media were treated to a “Price is Right” themed press conference. A fantastic intro to the race, as members of the crowd, were selected to compete in games such as Plinko, and a dance contest. The Contestants answered questions about the race itself. For instance, one answer was to remind the crowd that race fees start at $45 for the 5K and that the last day for online registration is April 9. To register, visit unitedguammarathon.com.
