Famous for its sizzling meals, Pepper Lunch is a popular destination for casual diners at Micronesia Mall in Dededo. The Japanese restaurant chain is now bringing its signature DIY teppan dining concept to Hagatna.
Genki Food Service Inc., a franchise owner on Guam, will hold the grand opening of its second Pepper Lunch outlet at Agana Shopping Center on Aug. 21, adding to the map of 570 locations across 17 countries.
Pepper Lunch's teppan concept refers to a Japanese cooking style, called "teppanyaki" which involves grilling food on an iron plate.
Beef pepper rice, the iconic item on the menu, combines tender beef, fragrant rice, flavorful pepper paste and freshly cracked black pepper, all served on a hot iron plate for a hot, fresh and customizable meal.
“It’s unique, fresh and offers a hot, sizzling, fun experience that really stands out,” said Jannill Ramos, operations manager of Genki Food Service.
Pepper Lunch originated in Tokyo, where it was founded in 1994 by master chef Kunio Ichinose.
The Ramos family introduced Pepper Lunch to Guam after trying the concept during a trip to Manila. The first location opened at Micronesia Mall in April 2019.
“As a family business, we’re excited to continue growing Pepper Lunch in Guam and bring this one-of-a-kind dining experience to even more guests in our community," Ramos said.
