/liminal/, Merc Tenorio's 8th solo art exhibition opens on Aug. 8 runs through Sept. 3 at CAHA Gallery, DNA Building, Agana Guam.
The exhibit features Tenorio's acrylic paintings rendered exclusively in monochrome.
These paintings focus on texture, light, shadow, and the quiet meditation on perception.
In /liminal/, familiar subjects like coconut trees, stones, petals, paintbrushes, pineapples, or even a fried egg, emerge in that quiet space between light and dark, clarity and mystery.
Stripped of color, these art pieces hope to draw the viewers' close attention to each subject's texture, shape, light, and shadow as it becomes.
Tenorio is a self-taught artist, poet, former teacher and disabled veteran.
Following a period of introspective seclusion, Tenorio decided to resume painting with a renewed passion.
Her subsequent solo exhibits not only showcased the breadth of her creative expression, but also narrated her story of resilience, revival and artistic evolution.
Committed to fostering a collaborative connection with fellow artists as a way of enriching the art community, Tenorio has also participated in numerous group exhibits.
As a disabled veteran, Tenorio hopes that through the transformative potential of art, she can reach out to others and encourage them to discover their own talent which could be a form of healing, solace, and survival.
