Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero is leading a Guam delegation to Taiwan to seek investments and air service to boost travel between the two islands, the governor's office announced today.
"Airlines, hydroponic farming, culture, trade, investment and agritourism are among the action items on a Taiwan trade and investment mission," the governor's office said.
The delegation, which left this morning, comprises key personnel from the Guam Visitors Bureau, Guam Economic Development Authority and Guam International Airport Authority.
Guam officials are scheduled to meet with China Airlines executives within an hour of landing at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei.
Later today, the Guam team will meet with representatives of Moss Creek Hydroponics.
Moss Creek officials have previously traveled to Guam to assess opportunities to expand their footprint here.
Hydroponic and vertical farming are fast-growing industries in Taiwan and are categorized as high-tech because of their heavy reliance on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) jobs.
While in-country, the delegation will hold meetings in Kaohsiung, the country’s second largest city with a population of 2.7 million and its largest industrial port.
The Kaohsiung agenda coincides with a three-day program on island cultures as viewed through music, markets, and international exchanges. Japan, Thailand and the Philippines are among other countries that will also be represented in Kaohsiung.
