Community events: August is a busy month for Guam arts

Back-to-back openings

"Mark Dell Isola: A Retrospective 1986-2026" will open at the Guam Museum on July 31, from 6 p.m, to 9 p.m. Hosted by the Guam Council of the Arts and Humanities, Dell Isola's show runs until Oct. 31.

"Different Visions, One Horizon" will open at Guam Museum Café Gallery on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Yeon Sook Park and Ofelita "Gigi" Magtoto. The two come together in this exhibit, bringing their unique styles and backgrounds to celebrate storytelling, community and resilience. The exhibit will run until Sept. 15

Creative Indeed marks the first anniversary of its annual art fair at Acanta Mall in Tumon on Aug. 2 from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Local artists are invited to participate.

Obra's annual summer art exhibit opened at Micronesia Mall on July 19 and will run until Aug. 2.

Learn, create and give back

This August, Artspace Guåhan is inviting residents to help create opportunities for others. As Guam's nonprofit community art center, every class registration directly supports Artspace Guåhan's mission of providing free and low-cost arts programming for individuals and families who may not otherwise have access to creative experiences.

August's lineup highlights Artspace's commitment to making creativity accessible to everyone through programs that celebrate local culture, strengthen families and build community connections.

Healing and amot (medicinal plant) introduces participants to traditional Chamoru healing practices and indigenous plant knowledge, led by Amot Para Taotao Tano.

Back-to-school hairstyling for dads and moms offers a fun, practical workshop designed to help parents and caregivers master simple hairstyles they can confidently recreate at home before the school day begins.

The month also features the opening of Reframed: A Photography Show, showcasing local photographic talent and the Art Yard Open House & Artist Market.

Boundless: Art Without Borders

Artspace Guåhan is inviting artists from Guam, the CNMI and across the Pacific region to be part of Boundless: Art Without Borders, a professionally curated exhibition opening April 15, 2027, at the Guam Museum Main Exhibit Hall.

Launching on World Art Day, the exhibition will make its debut during Art Bash 2027, Artspace Guåhan's signature fundraising gala celebrating creativity, culture, and community.

 Boundless: Art Without Borders provides artists with an opportunity to present original work in one of Guam's premier cultural venues while gaining island-wide exposure through an extensive marketing and public relations campaign.

Artists retain 100 percent of artwork sales. Artspace Guåhan takes no commission. No submission fee. Each artist may submit up to three original works for consideration. Artwork submissions will be accepted through March 12, 2027.
