Air Niugini to suspend Palau flights

By Pacific Island Times News Staff

Air Niugini this week announced the suspension of its weekly flights to Palau, explaining that "the passenger and freight growth unfortunately did not meet original expectations."

"The decision to suspend this service is regrettable but appropriate." the airline said, advising customers that its weekly services from Brisbane to Palau via Port Moresby will be suspended effective May 1.

Backed by the Australian government under their Pacific Flights Program, the Papua New Guinea flag carrier began its Palau service in February 2023, operating Boeing 767 aircraft.

"Air Niugini is grateful for the chance to participate in this Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade initiative," the airline said in its announcement posted on its website. "Air Niugini also thanks the tourism operators for their support over the last 13 months of operating this service and looks forward to opportunities to participate in future programs
