Typhoon Mangkhut continues its forecast track toward Rota. Damaging winds are expected on Guam to last through early Tuesday morning. Mangkhut is expected to bring tropical storm force conditions even after the closest approach to Guam. The National Weather Service – Guam Weather Forecast Office advises the following winds are still expected for Guam: · Damaging winds of 39 mph or more to last from late afternoon Monday through early Tuesday morning. · Destructive winds of 58 mph or more to last between late Monday afternoon through late Monday evening, around 10 p.m. · Typhoon force winds of 74 mph or more are expected between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., during the storm’s closest approach. The northern part of the island is anticipated to receive Category 1 typhoon force winds with maximum sustained winds of 74-90 mph during the storms passage from 6 p.m through 10 p.m. Continue to shelter in place in a hardened structure. If you have not done so, seek shelter immediately. Heavy winds are anticipated to pick up quickly through the remainder of the day. Do not venture outdoors and clear the roadways for emergency response personnel only. Watch for Flooding An urban and small stream flood advisory is in effect for Guam until 1:15 a.m. Heavy rain will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Heavy rainfall associated with Typhoon Mangkhut will continue to fall across Guam. 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible over the next 6 to 9 hours. More extensive flooding is likely for Merizo. Power Outages Reported
The Joint Information Center and Emergency Operations Center are receiving reports of power outages in different areas across the island to include locations in Harmon, Tamuning, Malesso, Talofofo, Ordot-Chalan Pago, Sinajana, and many other pocket areas.
