On June 21, the Guam Museum, in collaboration with the 75th Guam Liberation Planning Committee, will open In Hahasso Ha’: Nina’en Pås yan Inagofli’e’ (We Still Remember: A Legacy of Peace and Friendship), an exhibition in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Guam.

The exhibition will feature an array of objects and images, many of which are on public display for the first time in years, that capture the experience of liberation and the impact of the war during the rebuilding of Guam.

Part of the display will include four artworks from the Naval History and Heritage Command, based in Washington, DC. The Guam Museum and Joint Region Marianas reached out to Pam Overmann, Curator of the Navy Art Collection, Naval History and Heritage Command, for the temporary loan of the artworks which depict scenes of the arrival of US military forces during the liberation of Guam in 1944.

Two of the works are by renowned naval combat artist William F. Draper. “The Liberation Committee welcomes this collaboration with the Naval History and Heritage Command because these paintings provide important historical perspective as well as give our audiences an opportunity to see works they may not have a chance to see otherwise,” stated acting Governor Joshua Tenorio, Honorary chair.

“These kinds of partnerships also open doors for the Guam Museum to work with similar institutions, regionally and nationally, and increase our capacity to bring some amazing things to Guam that we can share in our exhibitions.”

“In Hahasso Ha’” will also feature Liberation era photographs from the Edgar Sachs’ collection at the War in the Pacific National Historical Parks and from the personal collections of Dr. William Weare and Captain Hans Sholley, USN, Joint Region Marianas.

“In Hahasso Ha’” will be open to the public from June 21 to Sept. 29.
