Governor Leon Guerrero on State of the Union address

Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address:

“President Trump’s State of the Union address was a strong call for unity at a time of increased partisanship in Washington, D.C. While we do not share the same political party, it is clear that America’s economy must work for everyone and that includes the four million Americans living within the nation’s insular territories,” said Gov. Leon Guerrero.

“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to keeping our military strong. Guam has a strategic role in our nation’s military, therefore our island must remain a priority to our federal government—and that means our construction industry and economic progress must not be hampered by federal policy. It’s easy to focus on our disagreements but I appreciate that President Trump called on every American to find common ground so we can work together in strengthening our nation.

I also look forward to meeting with the White House this month to discuss Guam’s continued need for H-2B labor, especially for civilian projects, as our military buildup progresses.”
