Guam diocese offers support to cancer sufferers

Weekly masses and a new statue of Patron Saint Peregrine

The Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica announced that the Archdiocese of Agaña will offer weekly devotion Masses to St. Peregrine on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM starting Jan. 9, 2019 for cancer patients, their families and all who would like to participate in celebration of the Eucharist and prayers.

The inaugural Mass will include the unveiling, blessing and enthronement of the statue of St. Peregrine in a special niche inside the Cathedral-Basilica. Comfort crosses made from olive wood from the Holy Land and St. Peregrine prayer cards with pendants will be presented to inaugural Mass attendees.

“There is no family untouched by cancer and we would like all of the island faithful to know those suffering from these terrible diseases are remembered in prayer for their healing and comfort, and if they can, to come to weekly Mass in our Mother Church,” stated Msgr. James Benavente, pastor of the Cathedral-Basilica. He said confession will be offered before each Mass as well as an anointing of the sick.
