Delegate to Congress Madeleine Z. Bordallo has written to President Donald Trump to request he approve a federal emergency declaration for Guam following Typhoon Mangkhut. A federal emergency declaration would allow federal resources to be made available to assist GovGuam and local families and businesses with recovery efforts. Congresswoman Bordallo requested that the President direct FEMA to authorize Hazard Mitigation, Public Assistance, and Individual Assistance for Guam.
FEMA personnel are already on Guam in force, as they are in the CNMI.

I appreciate FEMA’s support in deploying personnel to help coordinate recovery efforts. I encourage the President to also approve for federal financial assistance to be made available so that our families and entire community can get back to normal as soon as possible.”

Dear Mr. President,
I write to request your expeditious consideration and approval of a federal emergency declaration for the U.S. territory of Guam as a result of Typhoon Mangkhut. Typhoon Mangkhut made its closest approach to Guam on September 10, 2018. I understand that Governor Eddie Calvo will soon be requesting that you make federal resources available to assist in recovery efforts on Guam; I support his request for federal assistance.
I commend the Administration’s deployment of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) personnel to Guam ahead of Typhoon Mangkhut and hope the Agency will continue to coordinate recovery efforts with Guam’s Department of Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense. I request that you make federal resources available under Title V of the Stafford Act to assist GovGuam with recovery efforts, including that you direct FEMA to authorize Hazard Mitigation, Public Assistance, and Individual Assistance for Guam.
