The Guam Election Commission will reconvene at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to do a recount of votes from the Democratic Party’s primary for gubernatorial race, the 15th and 16th legislative race, as well as the 15th and 16th positions in the Republican legislative race.
Following GEC’s decision on Thursday night to do a recount, the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio campaign released the following statement: “We respect and support the Guam Election Commission's decision to conduct a recount of the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial primary election. We agree that the public must have confidence in our election process.”
The recount for the gubernatorial primary was requested by the Aguon-Limtiaco team. Based on unofficial results of the Aug. 25 primary, Lou Leon Guerrero and her running mate Joshua Tenorio were ahead of their closest rival team, Sen. Frank Aguon and his running mate Alicia Limtiaco, by 260 votes.
The Lou & Josh team received 8,218 votes or 32.14 percent of the total votes cast in the Democrat gubernatorial race, while the Aguon-Limtiaco team got 7,958 votes or 31.12 percent.
The Guam election law requires a vote recount if vote tallies indicate a difference of 2 percent or less.
The Democratic Party's legislative race, Lasia Casil (7,521 votes) was ahead of Mark Parkinson (7,238). On the Republican side, Jenei Adame Aguon landed on the 15th spot with 1,468 against Ryan Calvo's 1,435.
