New customs officers to speed up A.B. Won Pat operations

Guam's airport will get arriving passengers through faster

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency will be filling five new vacancies to serve at the Guam International Airport Authority and it's hoped the new jobs will be taken by Guam’s local workforce.

Guam Customs and Quarantine Acting Director Eric Palacios, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Director of Field Operations Brian Humphrey, who oversees Guam and C.N.M.I. offices, announced that the new positions have been identified for Guam in a meeting with Governor Eddie Baza Calvo. Gov. Calvo said, “While we recognize this could impact staffing in local law enforcement agencies, we encourage the continued growth of our local workforce in federal capacities.” “We welcome the news that members of our local law enforcement community have a rare opportunity to secure a federal job in protecting our island’s borders,” Palacios said. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, the average wait times for arriving passengers at the A.B. Won Pat International Airport are about 12 minutes per passenger.
