Two flavors of Guam football. This one is American soccer

The Guam Strykers Football Club was organized in 2005 and its fans and players have made it the largest soccer club on Guam, which has plenty of plain old American football action as well.

It’s got teams in every division: youth, men’s, women’s, futsol and beach soccer, all contained within the Guam Football Association. Now Strykers club president Keith Dickson has announced that Kevin Elwell will be the group’s technical director, running a youth academy for junior players. It’s part of an effort to promote the Guam game—soccer, not American football—on the international stage.

Of Elwell, Dickson said, “He has been coaching for 25-years, beginning his career with youth teams in 1992. Kevin’s experience spans from youth clubs to men and women’s collegiate teams. This will help take our Guam soccer athletes to the next level in getting them noticed outside of Guam.”

According to the release, Elwell led boys and girls teams to high school state championships in Oklahoma and California. He spent five seasons as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics head coach leading college players—men and women—earning a berth to the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament.

He also holds a national diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American Coaching Academy, along with a “C” coaching license from the Asian Football Confederation. He coached the Guam U14 and U16 Boys National Teams.
