Delegate Bordallo gets more pressure to oppose firing range

Updated with Bordallo letter to Prutehi Litekyan-Save Ritidian

Guam Delegate to Congress Madeleine Z. Bordallo is hearing, again, from the protest group Prutehi Litekyan-Save Ritidian.

The group has organized numerous protests, circulated petitions and otherwise organized opposition to the firing range which is scheduled to begin construction at the former Northwest Field adjacent to Andersen Air Force Base.

The group has sent a letter to Bordallo, signed off on by Sabina Perez on its behalf.

"In a recent letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, you stated, 'I recognized the deep concern about the preservation and protection of our cultural and natural resources related to the build-up, and especially the construction of the Live Fire Training Range Complex on Andersen Air Force Base and the accompanying surface danger zone.' We commend you on this effort to ensure the U.S. Department of Defense is upholding [its] promise of a One Guam approach and are equally supportive of your efforts to lift the veil of secrecy in which [DoD] has been operating under since identifying Litekyan and Tailalo,' we are calling on you to use all available leverage to demand more and protect these sacred spaces."
