Guam governor commutes sentence to send 32nd convicted criminal home

Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo has commuted the sentence of Esty Sachuo Martin, who was convicted by the Superior Court of Guam of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct as a third-degree felony and ordered to serve 18 months with credit for time served.

U.S. immigration officials identified Martin as having committed deportable crimes. Officials placed a federal detainer on his file. Police notified the victims who noted their support of his deportation.

The Department of Corrections will place Martin in the custody of the federal government for deportation to Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, as part of Governor Calvo's initiative to keep residents of Guam safe.

This action brings the total number of criminals whose sentences the Governor has commuted for either removal or deportation to 32.
