Docomo to launch 5G test lab in early 2019

Docomo Pacific announced its launch of the next wave of technology with a 5G test lab in early 2019.

5G, or the fifth-generation wireless broadband service, is the latest iteration of cellular technology engineered to greatly increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks.

Bringing ultra-high speeds, ultra-low latency and the ability to connect a massive amount of devices, this emerging technology will transform our augmented and virtual reality when it comes to gaming, education, manufacturing, telemedicine, and beyond.

"We are proud to be at the forefront of new technologies like 5G that help revolutionize the way we communicate and connect with our physical, virtual, and social worlds. While each new generation of wireless technology has offered great benefits to customers, 5G is the wave of the future and will offer higher speeds than ever before, shorter delays, and increased connectivity. We're excited our parent company NTT Docomo wants Guam to experience the future of 5G first," said Roderick Boss, president and CEO of Docomo Pacific.

Ahead of the 5G commercial service launch for business and residential customers, Docomo Pacific's sole shareholder, NTT Docomo based in Tokyo, Japan will begin operating the Docomo 5G Open Lab Guam as a 5G verification center at the company's Tamuning HQ in early 2019.

NTT Docomo operates 5G Open Labs in Tokyo and Osaka and will open a third in Okinawa, Japan in December 2018. The Docomo 5G Open Lab Guam will be the company's 4th verification center and its first lab outside of Japan.

The 5G Open Lab will allow worldwide partners including Guam to access the lab and its 5G base/mobile stations and equipment, along with the latest 5G information, test environments, and opportunities for partner workshops through the DOCOMO 5G Open Partner Program with more than 1,900 partners.
