Marching toward the Guam invasion, July 4th, 1944

On Independence Day 1944, events unfolding on Saipan and elsewhere as Americans prepared for the invasion of Guam, were relegated to the back pages of U.S. mainland newspapers. in favor of the European war. This was a common complaint of American forces in the Pacific if they were even aware of the coverage back home: Asia and the Pacific were terra incognita to most Americans and the media serving them. In the next couple of weeks though, folks on the home front would learn a lot about Guam and activities there.
