(Press Release) The University of Guam Theater presents William Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night or What You Will. In the mythical land of Illyria, shipwrecked twins Viola and Sebastion get caught up in a complex weave of mistaken identities and gender confusion. Viola is in love with Duke Orsino, who is in love with the beautiful countess Olivia, who is in love with Cesario, who just happens to be Viola, disguised as a male page. Olivia’s uncle Sir Toby Belch, her clown Feste, and household servants add to the fun and confusion.

A shared history of colonialism and migration, a strong seafaring tradition and commonalities in culture and language connect the Philippines and Guam, according to Dr. Felipe de Leon Jr., chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in the Philippines.

De Leon, spoke about these connections during the 8th Philippine Studies Lecture on “Strengthening Philippine-Guamanian Relations through Cultural Understanding,” held recently at the University of Guam.
