Chatfield, toured military installations on the island May 6.
The tour provided an opportunity for Guam's top leaders to view current and future military operations on U.S. Naval Base Guam, Andersen Air Force Base and the future Marine Corps Base.

"Our military members, Department of Defense employees and families are proud to serve on Guam and to be part of the Guam community," said Chatfield. "It is very important that we engage regularly with our partners from the government of Guam and ensure they can see our day-to-day activities firsthand.
"Our military forces on Guam operate and maintain robust capabilities that contribute to the defense of Guam and are a critical part of ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. As members of the island community, we also take our role as stewards of important environmental and cultural resources seriously and we welcome this opportunity to share our efforts with Gov. Leon Guerrero and her team, said Chatfield."
During the tour, the governor and lieutenant governor visited the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Key West (SSN 722), the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), AAFB flightline, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense Battery and the main cantonment of the Marine Corps Base.
"I'm very appreciative of the tour and would like to thank Admiral Chatfield and Capt. Sholley for allowing us the opportunity to really look at what's going on with the military," said Leon Guerrero. “It's really very comforting to see all the defenses and the military advances in technology that are being used to protect this part of the world."
