Finally, the word was out that the Saipan fighting was winding down, even if the geographical knowledge of the stateside graphic artists was a little limited.

Also, it was dawning on the faraway observers, as well as the Japanese, that this conquest had huge implications that would shape the air war on Japan that was already underway. Now, Japan would be within--relatively--easy range. Of course the bomber pilots and their crews who flew those missions would likely dispute how easy they were.
