The Guam and Tinian invasions continue, July 25, 1944

The Guam and Tinian invasions stole the attention of the New York Times editors this day. As they observed on the front page, "Three Marianas Islands feel weight of our power." Mop up was proceeding on Saipan, the Tinian invasion was underway and the defenders of the Orote Point airfield on Guam were being shelled and isolated.

And while the shooting war went on, New York publisher Little Brown was flogging British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's collection of wartime speeches, as the Germans continued to devastate London with V2 rocket bombs.
